Since its establishment in 1946, the English Department has been one of the core departments of SKKU.  Our department has 14 internationally reknowned faculty members.

Our department has grown with the efforts of all faculty members which include: Hong Dauksuhn , Kang Yongsoon, Kim Dongwook, Kim Ilyeong, Kim Wonchung, Lee Haemoon, Kim Yoo, Son Hyesook, Lee Hanjung, Simon C. Estok, Yujong Park, Shawn, D. Normandin, Yeonsik Jung, and Jungmee Lee.

The English Department is divided into two channels with a focus on Literature and Linguistics. The English Literature program offers various courses in English poetry, fiction, drama, literary theory, etc. and also looks into each subject with particular time periods in focus. The Linguistic program provides courses in phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, conversatin analysis, as well as language acquisition and English education.

Through such diversity in course material, we are prepared to provide substantial understanding in English language as well as literature and culture.

1. Courses for Potential Global & Creative Leaders
The English Department has been providing various courses that focus on the language, literature, and culture of English-speaking countries under SKKU's four principles; "Humanity, Righteousness, Propriety, Wisdom," which reflect the basic spirit of Confucianism.
 
The courses explore the lives of people, culture, and theory in the global world, and also help prepare students to develop fluent communication skills in English. Through such courses, the undergraduate program of the English Department at SKKU aims at producing cultivated citizens who are equipped with what is required to be core members of a global society.
 
The English Department aims to produce specialists with leadership qualities who will pioneer an age of diverse cultures through professional communicative English skills in listening, speaking, writing and reading.

The Department of English Language and Literature held the BK21 business organization from 2008 until 2010. The department is also in charge of the English and American Culture Research Center and holds various student conferences on cultural issues surrounding American and the U.K.
