This course aims to understand the dictionary meaning and social-contextual meaning of vocabulary by analyzing the meaning of the Korean vocabulary system in relation to the communication system in which vocabulary is created and communicated and exploring specific meanings. Major tasks include the meaning of vocabulary that appears in Korean dictionaries, the meaning communicated socially, differences in meaning between generations, semantic variation according to social systems, and interpretation of meaning according to media. Learners can develop understanding of the concepts and relationships between vocabulary and meaning.

This course aims to understand the relationship between language and society by exploring the communication system and application process of the language community as well as various linguistic variations and methods of interpreting meaning. In detail, through discussions on the problem of systematizing the linguistic communication logic and theoretical structure of the language community, the relationship between language and society, and the meaning and structure of social communication, the basic concepts and theories of language, application processes, etc. Develop research abilities and perspectives on social issues of language by understanding the language knowledge, language policy, social structure, interrelationship between language and society.

This course provides an understanding of Korean as a world language, basic concepts related to language (foreign language) education, and the current status and overall content of Korean language education as a foreign language. Based on this, participants will be able to plan and operate Korean language education classes for foreigners learning Korean, Korean compatriots abroad, and foreigners living in Korea, with an eye for interpreting Korean society and language culture.

This course aims to explore the system and content of Hangeul orthography. The goal of learning is to understand the differences between diachronic and synchronic perspectives in Hangeul orthography and to develop the application ability to apply notation by exploring the principles and concepts of notation that are the basis for language life. Through this type of learning, you can develop Korean language competence, including the acquisition and use of Korean language knowledge and the ability to interpret meaning, which will be necessary in future society.

In this course, we learn about the new alphabet ‘Hunminjeongeum’, which is recognized as the best alphabet among the world’s alphabets. You learn the basic theories for majoring in Korean language and literature by properly understanding the principles of Hunminjeongeum and orthography. The creation of Hunminjeongeum is the biggest event in the history of the Korean language, and it is studied based on 《Hunminjeongeum》, a commentary on Hunminjeongeum.

This course seeks to gain a new understanding of classical novels not as fixed texts but as objects of various changes and reproduction by focusing on the dynamism shown by readers in the process of accepting Korean classical novels. Confirming contemporary readers' active acceptance of classical novels through different versions and derivative works will ultimately provide an opportunity to meaningfully explore how classical novels are currently accepted, so through this class, the possibility of transformation into new content could also be explored.
