Social entrepreneurs are those who dare to challenge social problems and thus are at the frontline of change-making. By analyzing their cases, students will get inspiration and gain insights into actual operation of their business models. For this, we will gather cases on social entrepreneurs including those of Ashoka Fellows and others from various sources. In particular, given the exponential growth of digital technologies and their impact on the society and human life, we will examine the role of digital technologies in their cases.
FSE5012 Alternative Culture for Social Innovation 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 - No
Alternative culture is a future-conscious culture that emerged as part of a solution to social problems that denied the negative mainstream culture of the developing industrial society in the 50s and 60s. This is a lifestyle formed with an emphasis on ecological and civil rights, which values pluralistic values and pays attention to issues in all sectors of society. Alternative culture is a culture that aims to solve problems related to the future of mankind and ecology as new alternatives. Germany, in particular, exemplifies this in its 50 year history of alternative culture. This seminar will examine the philosophical background, the development process, and the significance of the cultural movement, focusing on the alternative cultural movement formed in Germany and exploring the direction of the new alternative culture for humanity and ecology being destroyed by the high industrial development in the new technological civilization society of the 21st century.

Recently, AI technology is rapidly developing around the field of language processing. In particular, the GPT-3-based language model, which was released in 2020, shows a prospect that problems in areas previously considered impossible can be resolved sooner or later. In this situation, the time has come to seriously consider what it means to learn a language, and especially where to find the meaning of learning a foreign language. To this end, this lecture first deals with the current state of language processing technology based on AI. It covers the structure and technology level of not only translators such as Google Translator and Naver Translator, but also AI for language education and AI platform for chatbot development. Based on this, it looks at the trends in the industry related to language processing, and explores ways to solve social communication problems using AI technology.

With the spread of glossicalization, social policies and regional movements are being developed that take into account both global and locality. In this course, we study how global and government, regional and social entrepreneurs organize and interact with the social problems facing us through theories and case studies. First, We compare the international norms proposed by UN and OECD with the direction of public policy by central government. We understand the scale of supports and the way of implementation of local government’s public policy and study how social entrepreneurs interpret and implement these institution and norm through case studies and theories.

This course deals with the social economy policies at domestic and abroad as a advanced major course in the Convergence Department of Future Humanities and Social Entrepreneurship. This course focuses on several Korean policies such as the National Basic Living Security Act which gave birth to self-supporting company as a form of social economic institution, the Social Enterprise Development Act as the basis of social enterprise, the Framework Act on Cooperatives as the basis of cooperative, and the Framework Act on Social Economy or Social Value Development, which are still pending in the National Assembly, and introduce the process of social economic policy development and the social economy-related policies of the central and local governments. Furthermore, this course studies several foreign social and economic policies that greatly enhance understanding of social and economic policies by comparing national policies and strategies of the countries of American continent (US, Canada, Argentina, etc), Europe (France, Italy, Britain, etc.) and Asia (Japan, Vietnam, etc.).

This course aims to find alternatives for restoring the meaning of urban places and to propose concrete implementing plans. In the process of constructing a modern city, places within the city, including living spaces, are losing their original and cultural meaning and role due to uniform spatializing. The uniform spatialization gradually strengthens the dependence of human lives, and in this process, it also weakens the possibility of cultural residence. Restoring the meaning of places in the city is on the one hand for cultural lives of human being, and on the other hand, it is also a process of redesigning the future of the city. In this sense, based on critical review of the spatialization process of places in the city, this course offers new directions and specific plans for future city that can restore the meaning of places based on the cooperation of the team. In order to meet these objectives, this course will consist of the following steps. 1) Humanities analysis of the meaning of place-functional space and place 2) Urban spatial policy and characterization of urban space 3) Possibility of recovery of place-transition from functional space to place 4) Designing a future city as a cultural place

The 21st century is the era of transformation. Operational efficiency and scale of institutions and organizations that have been built over more than 200 years are no longer in effect. Further, the industrial age systems are widening gaps that exit in social and economic conditions. Facing these challenges, we need a new breed of leadership which is based on humanity and the balance between independence of individuals and shared values of communities. Based on literature survey and real case analysis, the class prepares students to develop their own mental framework on entrepreneurship that will facilitate re-newal of the problem-laden realities of the 21 century.

This course examines various sustainability issues that have emerged as interest in supply chain social responsibility increases. The supply chain is a network of organizations to provide a product or service. Recently. the supply chain, in which various stakeholders are intertwined, is required to operate while respecting ethical and social values. In this course, various strategies for operating a sustainable supply chain fulfilling these social responsibilities are examined through theories and cases.

This course attempts to philosophically diagnose modern society, understand the essence of modern technological civilization, and engage in philosophical reflection for the future. To this end, we examine various modern philosophical movements such as existential philosophy, phenomenology, structuralism, Frankfurt School, and virtue ethics. Next, we will read recent philosophical works that explore the human condition in modern civilization and future society. Finally, we critically reflect on posthumanism and transhumanism.

This course will shed light on the rules and the corresponding models applied to German neologism and the analyzing the elements in words. Main subjects are the process and the methods for neologism as well as the individual category of linguistic tools. All the phenomena of German neologism will be dealt with through both social and historical methodology.
