In many cases, a machine translation system employs a linguistic knowledge base. The participants of the class will learn about the feature and the characteristics of the linguistic knowledge base. Based on this, the participants will have a chance to research on the methods to improve the existing MT systems or to make the most use of the MT systems. In order to take participate in this class, it is recommended, but not necessary, to take liberal arts classes such as introduction to linguistics.
