Students will read and write individual book reviews on the selected works from the list of the historical masterworks designated by the History Department. These individual book reviews will be shared in a group discussion later.

This course is intended to introduce students to social and political histories of Asia and Africa in modern times with the emphasis on understanding the events and characters that have shaped the nations and people. Through the lectures and readings we explore injustices and experiences of living under (neo-) colonialism, and follow the struggles against it, and celebrate the achievements of independence.
