TESL013 Practicum: Practical Application of Teaching Principles 2 4 Major Master 1-5 - No
Students will apply the principles of effective English teaching in both controlled and free teaching situations. Peer teaching will allow the students to practice teaching using their classmates as students. Feedback sessions and group discussions will help each student discover areas in which they are strong and areas in which they need to improve.
TESL014 English Phonology 2 4 Major Master 1-5 - No
Students will learn some tools of phonological analysis and use them to explore the morphological and phonological structure of English.
TESL015 Contrastive Analysis 2 4 Major Master 1-5 - No
This course stresses the implicational value of contrastive analysis, its role as a source for experimental studies into the predictability of learner difficulty, its major theoretical contribution to current studies into interlanguage, its need to be combined with Error Analysis as a practical classroom research tool for teachers anxious to adjust their teaching to the state of knowledge of their learners.
TESL016 Academic Writing 2 4 Major Master 1-5 English Yes
In-depth writing exercises will satisfy students need for a more professional command of English while at the same time calling on their critical thinking skills in the field of English education. Students will examine the strucutre and organization of several academic papers and will practice writing a short research paper.
TESL017 Meaning and Usage in English 2 4 Major Master 1-5 English Yes
The system of meaning in English lexicon and sentences will be discussed. The meaning of each unit and the intended meaning of the speaker will be compared and the factors and rules that bridge the gap will be discussed from cognitive and sociocultural perspectives.
TESL018 Forms and Their Use in English 2 4 Major Master 1-5 English Yes
This course examines details of the use of grammatical features in different varieties and registers of English. The course will provide an innovative, practical perspective on English grammar by focusing on analyses of systematic differences between spoken and written grammar and explanations of how, when and why different structures are used in actual discourse and large corpora.
TESL019 Assessment in English Education 2 4 Major Master 1-5 - No
The role of assessment in the whole English education is discussed. On the other hand, the two most important factors of language assessment, relilability and validity, will be introduced to the students. In more detail, the kinds of assessment, the assessment tuned to the level of students will be discussed in comparison.
TESL020 Sociolinguistics 2 4 Major Master 1-5 - No
This course offers the student a perspective on language and society. Topics to be covered include language variation, linguistic varieties, gender and registers. Students will take a midterm and final exam, keep a bi-weekly journal. Attendance and participation are required for successful completion of the course.
TESL021 Psycholinguistics 2 4 Major Master 1-5 English Yes
This course is an introduction to the linguistic and psychological issues involved in the study of how children acquire a first language. Among the topics to be considered are Chomskyian discussion of the problem of language acquisition, the biological basis of language acquisition, infant speech perception, the relationship between language acquisition and the linguistic input to the child, research methods in language acquisition, the critical period hypothesis, and the acquisition of Sign Language.

This course deals with the role of culture in communication between native and non-native speakers. In particular, the use of language and culture in second/foreign language acquisition will be investigated from the pragmatic aspects.
TESL023 Multimedia and English Language Instruction 2 4 Major Master 1-5 Korean Yes
Both the practical and theoretical aspects of using computers in second language learning will be explored. This course is intended to give participants a broad general view of computer-enhanced language teaching and learning. It will involve participants in exploring a working theory of language learning environments, using and discussing existing and potential applications of computer technology in the language classroom, and creating projects to use and test knowledge gained through reading, discussion, and hands-on experience.
TESL024 Studies in English Education II 2 4 Major Master 1-5 - No
Recent issues in second language acquisition will be introduced to the students. Based on the classical theories of second language acquisition, the new issues will be evaluated and the research interest of individual students will be discussed.
TESL025 Linguistics for language acquisition research 4 8 Major Master 1-5 - No
As an introductory course of linguistics, this course prepare the future second language acquisition/education students with the basic analytic tools for their research and SLA topic courses. Phonology, morphosyntax, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, language change, typology and language acquisition will be covered in this course with lecture, excercises, presentation and quizzes.
TESL026 TESOL Portfolio 4 8 Major Master English Yes
The ultimate goal of TESOL Portfolio is to have students create their own portfolio to present themselves as English teaching professionals. At the initial stage, the course aims at understanding the teaching approaches such as Communicative Language Teaching approach (CLT) and Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT), which are to be the criteria for analyzing and creating authentic teaching materials of the students themselves. The most outstanding feature that differentiates the course from other existing TESOL graduate courses is its hands-on characteristics, which would eventually enable students to start using their own materials in their own teaching context as soon as they finish the course at the end of a semester.
TRAN001 Introduction to Translation 2 4 Major Master 1-5 - No
This course aims to teach students basic translation theories and skills required for professional translation, based on translation theories. Students will be encouraged to acquire both theoretical and practical knowledge of translation and learn ethics demanded for professional translators. This introductory course consists of basic translation studies and translation practices.
